Dr. Alan Chun Wah Tang B.Sc.H., B.S., D.C., F.I.A.M.A., cert., Acu Is a Chinese-Canadian from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. A 27th generation descendant from China’s Song Dynasty royal family, Dr. Tang is a National Board-certified physician of chiropractic medicine who graduated from Carleton University in his hometown with a Bachelor of Science degree, with Honours, in Integrated Science Studies, majoring in biochemistry and biotechnology with minors in psychology and neuroscience. During his undergraduate studies Dr. Tang participated in many extracurricular activities, which included being the Student Council representative for the Faculty of Science, the Chair of Integrated Science Studies, President of the Pre-Medical Student's Club, a volunteer university safety patrol officer, a volunteer for the Department of Oncology at the former Ottawa General Hospital, the Canadian capital's largest hospital, where he experienced the final stages and the death of a cancer patient with her family. Dr. Tang is also a contributor of a published peer-reviewed paper, while completing his senior research thesis with his advisor Dr. H. Anisman, Ph.D., demonstrating an animal model for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in a specially bred strain of laboratory rats.
Dr. Tang then enrolled at Logan College of Chiropractic, in St. Louis, Missouri, and completed a ten-trimester (five calendar years) doctor of chiropractic (D.C.) degree in three and one-third years. Before completing his D.C. degree, Dr. Tang also earned a second degree of Bachelor of Science in Human Biology (B.S.) During this time period, he was on the Dean’s List and served as vice-president of his class and class representative for Logan College Student Doctor’s Council; was on the Chiropractic Olympic Games softball team; as an active member, Rush Chairman and Recording Secretary of his Professional (Chiropractic) fraternity, Pi Kappa Chi; and was senior teaching assistant and tutor in the College's nationally regarded gross anatomy program and laboratory for two years. Dr. Tang has also served as course Chairperson of Logan College of Chiropractic’s post-graduate programs, where he sat in post-doctoral nutrition programs, and where he earned his pre-professional Acupuncture Technician certificate, post-doctoral designation of Fellow of the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture (F.I.A.M.A.), where his professors studied in China, and was also awarded a second certification in Acupuncture from Logan College of Chiropractic, all before he earned his doctoral degree. For his senior research project he co-ordinated with Dr. M. Zebelman, DC, Ph.D. (Psych.), and demonstrated that the literature supports that acupuncture, namely electro-acupuncture, was effective for treating Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
Dr. Tang served as associate chiropractor at the Graham Chiropractic Center’s Institute for Spinal Correction, the largest chiropractic practice in Louisville, Kentucky. During his tenure there he had performed over 7,000 successful chiropractic treatments to his enthusiastic patients. He also had the opportunity to personally treat celebrities and important persons such as "Papa" John Schnatter (of pizza fame) and his family, a retired NFL quarterback for 6 NFL teams, and his family, an NBA hall-of-famer and his family, a high-profile basketball coach for the local college, along with medical doctors, pediatricians, dentists, CEOs of large corporations, to name a few, (names omitted due to HIPAA.)
After his tenure at Graham Chiropractic Center, Dr. Tang participated in a post-doctoral training program specializing in chiropractic excellence, in Louisville, Kentucky, where his mentor, Dr. J. M. Hollern, DC, developer of many successful chiropractic offices throughout the country, polished this young doctor to become a leader in the chiropractic community in Illinois. During this time period in Kentucky Dr. Tang had the opportunity to do community service at local area schools for scoliosis screenings and blood pressure & health screenings at local and national supermarket chains and shopping centers to make the public aware of their health and to improve retail-customer relations. Dr. Tang has carried this service into Illinois and has spoken in large conventions such as a nationally known vitamin company and to numerous smaller community development organizations. You may ask for his availability to speak at your event.
Over the course of his career Dr. Tang had to undergo rigorous examination processes from the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners from which he had to pass all of Part I, Part II, Part III, , and Part IV Board Examinations, as well as the elective Physical Therapy component, held at various parts of his doctoral training. In effect, the success of these examinations allowed Dr. Tang to qualify to sit for the individual State Boards' examinations, as required. As a result, Dr. Tang holds licenses to practice chiropractic medicine in three states: Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. Incidentally, Dr. Tang was also the only candidate amongst his peers at his alma mater to pass the first round of the grueling written portion of the Canadian Chiropractic Board-examinations. Dr. Tang is a good-standing member of the American Chiropractic Association, the Illinois Chiropractic Society and Logan University’s College of Chiropractic’s Alumni Association. Dr. Tang is also busy with developing and learning more traditional and new techniques to serve his patients, traveling nationally and to China, and he is also earning his Diplomate in Acupuncture (Dipl. Ac, IAMA.)
Dr. Tang has attained professional recognition for his professional work and has been named the Consumer Research Council of America’s “Top Chiropractors” in 2004 for “Chiropractic and Acupuncture” and he is also listed on the National Register’s Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals for 2005-2006.
Dr. Tang has successfully treated many cases of infertility, high blood pressure, acne, ADD, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, depression, PMS, change of life symptoms in addition to the routine chiropractic neuro-musculoskeletal conditions such as headaches, “pinched nerves”, many forms of pain, sciatica, sinus and allergies, asthma, and his effective stop-smoking protocol.
